Backdrop Replacement Due to “Shrinkage”

It’s not quite as embarrassing as George’s encounter on Seinfeld, but I need to fix the background before finishing the rest of the scenery in front of it. It’s difficult to make out in the image here, but a few of the sheets of my background seem to have shrunk leaving small gaps of blue.

The background here is Masonite painted blue with clouds, I then printed out background trees and hills from a Lark Products background CD. I used my inkjet printer to print the images on heavy matte paper, then sprayed them with Dullcoat to protect them. I then used Super 77 spray adhesive to mount them carefully without gaps. The only thing I can think that may have happened is that these pieces were not sufficiently dry when I applied them and shrunk slightly as they dried fully.

I used a heat gun to remove the problem pieces. To my surprise they peeled off the wall cleanly. I had some issue getting them out from behind the scenery, but I think it went well. Sorry for the distorted image, the backdrop edges are actually vertical.

I printed up a new section of the backdrop which I will need to cut and fit to the area on three sheets of heavy matte paper. I was able to print them landscape this time, which reduced the number of sheets to three. I will wait a few days to allow them to dry before attempting to fit them back in here.
